Professor Teng received his BEng degree from Zhejiang University in 1983 and his PhD degree from the University of Sydney in 1990. Prior to his current positions at SUSTech, he had held full time positons at James Cook University in Australia (1991-1994) and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU; 1994-2018). He is an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, a Fellow of the Hong Kong Academy of Engineering Sciences and a Corresponding Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh.


Professor Teng has conducted extensive research on structural engineering. He has authored/co-authored over 200 SCI journal papers, leading to over 9,000 citations and an H-index of 49 according to the Web of Science Core Collection. His research contributions have been recognized by many awards and prizes, including the IIFC Medal from the International Institute for FRP in Construction (IIFC), the State-of-the-Art of Civil Engineering Award from the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Howard Medal from UK’s Institution of Civil Engineers, and the Harting Award from the Society for Experimental Mechanics.
