University Governance

SUSTech has established a modern governance system with Chinese characteristics. The university is led by the President under the auspices of the University Council, with full faculty participation in the governance of academic affairs.
The university’s senior management is composed of the Board of Regents, the University Council, the Presidential Executive Council, the Academic Degree Evaluation Committee, the Academic Committee, the International Advisory Council and the Faculty Committee.

Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees is a decision-making institution of SUSTech, whose members are composed of representatives of the Municipal Government of Shenzhen, SUSTech's Senior Leadership Team, faculty and staff representatives as well as social leaders, all appointed by the Municipal Government of Shenzhen. SUSTech's Board of Trustees is the overall fiduciaries for the University. As such it is responsible for, among other things, creating policies, setting out missions and purpose, strategic planning, reviewing programs, and overseeing campus-community relationships, as well as various other major matters.

University Council

The University Council is the governing body which controls and manages the operations, affairs, concerns and property of the University, in accordance with the Governance Statement. The University Council and the senior leadership team work together to ensure that the University achieves its goals.

Presidential Executive Council

The senior leadership convenes weekly at the Presidential Executive Council Meeting to review the development and implementation of initiatives and activities. Senior leadership presents their recommendations, and the leadership can facilitate an in-depth discussion of specific topics.

Academic Degree Evaluation Committee

According to the Statutes of the South University of Science and Technology, the Academic Degree Evaluation Committee is a special committee of the Academic Committee, and submitted to the principal’s office for approval. The Academic Degrees Evaluation Committee is authorized by the Academic Committee to coordinate the exercise of the authority and authority to approve the standards and rules for the awarding of degrees, approval, and revocation of degrees, approval of tutor qualifications, deliberation of academic discipline adjustments, and the organization of degree authorization points.

Academic Board

The Academic Board has the main responsibility for the supervision and development of all academic activities of the University, including the maintenance of high standards in teaching and research. The Academic Board determines all matters related to courses and subjects, admission and enrolment of students. It is also responsible for formulating and reviewing policies, rules, guidelines and procedures about academic matters, as well as playing an active role in assuring the quality of teaching, scholarships, and research in the University.

International Advisory Council

Article Twenty-Nine, Chapter Three of The Shenzhen Government Ordinance for the Southern University of Science and Technology (2011) provides that “SUSTech shall form an Advisory Council as the advisory organ of the University with the responsibility to provide suggestions to the University on major areas of interests to the University development.

Faculty Committee

The Faculty Committee is an autonomous organization for professors to develop academic communications and participate in the management of the university. The committee members are professors, associate and assistant professors of SUSTech.
