Abstract:

Ferromagnets and ferroelectrics are phases of condensed matter in which magnetic and electric dipoles align spontaneously below a Curie temperature. “Magnons” (“ferrons”) are the elementary excitations of the magnetic (electric) order that carry spin (electric) polarization, momentum, and energy. I will introduce the basic physics of “magnonics” and “ferronics” concerned with the transport by those quasiparticles and present selected recent results.
