Biography:

Huizhong Shen is an Associate Professor in the School of Environmental Science and Engineering at Southern University of Science and Technology. He received his bachelor’s and doctoral degrees from Peking University and conducted postdoctoral research at the Georgia Institute of Technology. His research focuses on the characterization, driving forces, and impacts of regional and global emissions of greenhouse gases and air pollutants. His representative contributions include: (1) systematic assessments of the global emissions, atmospheric transport, and lung cancer risks of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons; (2) elucidation of how population migration during China's urbanization has affected residential energy transitions, pollutant emissions, air quality, and public health; and (3) evaluation of the impacts of climate change, energy policies, and related drivers on pollutant emissions, air quality, croplands, and natural ecosystems. He is committed to advancing air-quality modeling and forward and adjoint sensitivity analysis for diagnosing severe air-pollution episodes, assessing health impacts, and constraining emissions through inverse modeling. His research has been published in journals including Nature Climate Change, Nature Food, Nature Human Behaviour, Science Advances, One Earth, and Environmental Science & Technology. He has authored or co-authored more than 200 peer-reviewed journal articles, with over 10,000 citations in Web of Science and an H-index of 61.
